Ilya Lagutenko, the frontman for Russia’s longest-running cult rock band Mumiytroll (Wikipedia: Му́мий Тро́лль founded in 1983), commissioned me to create artwork & direct a series of motion projections for his concert. The assets needed to be unique yet versatile enough for event projection specialists to repurpose and adapt them for a subsequent series of performances along the next leg of the band’s tour. The brief: Cats, retro meets modern vibes, old video games, eastern influences & typography + a wacky sense of visual intoxication - in line with the band’s history of using experimental visuals in their music videos, merchandise, and tours since their inception in 1983.
