No experience in creating a PR gift pack, check. No experience in 3D design, check. A burning deadline, where everything is always ‘due yesterday’, check. I focused my creative powers to pull a rabbit out of my hat (this was the other time), during my hustle as a creative for MTV Asia. With a looming deadline for the MTV Asia Awards, we needed something monumental yet tongue in cheek to embody the spirit of MTV while retaining an air of mystique. Ever watched the cult classic film Pulp Fiction and wondered “What’s In the Briefcase?” - this point was literally the inspiration for this project. We told management the golden “M” shaped trophy was a ‘tribute’ to the award show’s key location partner Genting Highlands, the project was approved immediately. It was an absolute honor to see superstars such as Stefanie Sun, Karen Mok, Actor Jared Leto (Via his 30 Seconds To Mars Band) and One Republic hold up the trophy while thanking God, Their Parents, The Tooth Fairy and everyone who ever had a hand in guiding their careers.
Like opening up the Golden Briefcase from Pulp Fiction
What do One Republic, Karen Mok, Stefanie Sun, Pre-Academy Award Winning Actor Jared Leto’s 30 Seconds To Mars band and more, have in common? They’ve all touched what appears to resemble a golden chocolate bar - except it’s actually a big piece of gold plated lead (so that it feels important - when held in one’s hands). This is the official MTV Asia Awards Trophy.
PR Swag for the press & other ‘VIPs’
Taking our cue from the designer toy craze during that era, the PR gift revolved around the idea of a special collectible “mini-gold” keychain, so that press attendees would get a kick out of having a ‘slightly smaller’ version of the official MTV Asia Awards Trophy.
